kaylee "graduated" from kindergarten on friday...wow what a production. they really went all out and the kids had been working on it for months. i did get a little emotional, but no actual tears. the emotional stuff was probably me realizing that we have to get up really early next year and NONE of us are morning people. i really can't believe this school year is over already. growing up we usually went to school until the end of june thanks to a bunch of snow make-up days, but then again we didn't start school in august like we do here. i'm really proud of kaylee. this year was definitely a challenge and her teacher was so excited at how much she grew and changed in the last 9 months.
i'm having such a debate about next year. a new school is being built about a mile from our house and about half the kids from our school will be making the move....including kk's kindergarten teacher who will be teaching 1st grade at the new school.....ugh!!! i've had meetings with both her teacher and our current principal (who will be the principal at the new school) and they are both totally supportive of kaylee making the move to the new school. i just keep thinking that if we can minimize changes for kaylee right now it would really help. even though she would be moving schools, having the same teacher environment would be amazing. i know that by 2nd grade she would obviously have to change teachers, but the hope is that by then she'll be adjusted to all day school and the medication adjustments that will come with going to school all day.
i don't know how parents deal with all this stuff when they have children with several/ more severe disabilites. it has been really stressing me out. we'll figure it out though. i probably make a bigger deal out of the situation but after dealing with many of kaylee's issues for over 6 years you tend to exhaust yourself. on top of that, i'm having surgery in two weeks so i'm a little overwhelmed with everything.
